Hurrah
The Asif Massive (ebay seller) have sent a new working head unit ..
Must admit that it was installed in the car while still in Oxford JIC it was another dead one. The 5amp car fuse was not large enough to supply the unit when a quick sound check was done :) wakey wakey North Oxford.
The LCD is excessively jazzy, I will try to fit it properly tomorrow (ie so that it's not just resting on the seat). The Ipod cable needs to be routed through the back and into the glove compartment .
I need to post photo with the Ipod working, not just playing a lame Seal CD. I also need to attach the ciggy lighter thing too, so if I get a moment, I will do both.

Going too well I guess , head unit arrived and although it plays radio and CD the LCD is fubared. Ebay seller has been contacted.
On closer inspection it does look suspiciously like the count down timer in the film predator so maybe I just have to be careful. Will be sending it back for a replacement today .

Where is wally ?
Aha... with the wonder that is the world wide web has given us a GPSuplink
http://testing.hertford.ox.ac.uk/map
gives a cool little map using the google maps api
The data is streamed to the 3dadtracking site and plots every minute where we are.
GPS tracking data goes to the real time recorder which can be used in real time or to see where we went wrong later ...
cool :-)
It wont show us when we are out of the car or where there is poor gprs but still fairly smart ...

shopping, shopping, buying , buying, fitting
I needed some bits for the car i.e. tunes and jack (or a new head unit and a 2 ton car jack)
Yes I know is should gaffer taped a boom box to the dash but frankly we want a little comfort.
The unit should hook up to our ipod classics, giving us more than enough music. Same with the jack really, just makes life a little easier than the old wind up thing
and for £16 it was a real steal
The old head unit wiring is a bit basic and unmarked so it will be a bit hit and miss getting it plumbed in.
Still "need" to get lots of shiny thing for the car incl

Da Car home2rome
Last weekend we got the car for £100
It's a 1994 peugeot 405 GLX 1.9 Turbo Diesel
We left the warmth of our beds (sub 6am) to shoot up the M6 to pick it up from the thorougly nice bloke Pete! The advert was spotted by Ross on the Gti owners club and looked too good to be true but we jumped in and gave it a spin down the motorway and all seems to be fine. He even through in the Haynes Manual for it ...
The car itself was very clean and tidy but needs a head unit ... off to ebay we go ...

The insurance was the hard part ! It took the best park of the day to organise and the cheapest quote we could get was £212.35 for the both of us... So that's why there are so many uninsured drivers, they simply give up the will to phone another poxy swinderling robbing set of .....
I enjoyed driving it so much that monday I drove it to work ! Being a diesel I quickly realised it was going to be a lot cheaper to run than the HRV but got to keep the millage down. The car itself was very clean and tidy but needs a head unit ... off to ebay we go ...
